While there have always been people with caring hearts trying to help kids in high-risk environments and prevent the onset of substance use, not every effort has a good outcome. Therefore, it is wise to know which approaches are more effective and explore why … in a way that produces scientifically derived results. For example, a best practice should be measurable, notably successful, and replicable (University of Kansas, 1994-2023; retrieved May 8, 2023). In this way, one can keep using the practices that work the best to produce more optimal results. In this section, we will describe what a best practice is.
