This course explores some evidence-based information in the field of healing nutrition and nutrigenomics, or how nutrition can impact gene expression and create health. Included in this discussion are the use of supplements within the category of nutrition. We look at ways to heal ourselves and maintain health in a sweeping manner, including a special look at preventing and treating addiction, covering such areas as our physical body, our thoughts and feelings, all of which inevitably affect our behavioral choices, and yes, even our spirituality.

The Mind-Body Connection

Many people do not know that our physical body is inextricably connected to our mental health!

Do you know this?!

Dr. Eva Selhub, writing for Harvard Health Publishing (2021), sums it up nicely:

“Think about it. Your brain is always "on." It takes care of your thoughts and movements, your breathing and heartbeat, your senses — it works hard 24/7, even while you’re asleep. This means your brain requires a constant supply of fuel. That ‘fuel’ comes from the foods you eat — and what’s in that fuel makes all the difference. Put simply, what you eat directly affects the structure and function of your brain and, ultimately, your mood” (p. 1).

Think food-mood connection!
